There's something magical about photographing an actor at the start of their career. They are filled with hope, their dreams not yet limited, still so in touch with why. They are not sculpted by the perceptions of others, I love the way teenagers in particular have such an innate understanding of who they are despite the challenges and confusion that comes with their time. I want to scream at them "That part of you, that part you know, hold on to it, don't let 'them' take that away from you. You are enough. You are powerful". It's as much a reminder to myself as the protective beast that instinctively rises around young people, especially young performers.
Piper Lowe is smart, grounded and radiates kindest. She is one young actor to keep on eye on.
As promised here's another shoot with bombshell actor (did you know the lady also writes really freaking cool stuff?), Bianca Bradey.
This time we wanted something a little more dramatic. Slightly more classic. I really love the work of Annie Leibowitz and Yelena Yemchuck. They have such a beautiful way of playing with light and shadow to tell story as well as capturing secret parts of their subjects. Both are very different in their approach, but I'm very much influenced by aspects of each. The classicism of Leibowitz mixed with the dark, almost gothic mystery of Yemchuck's earlier work (there's also a real playfulness to all of it which I LOVE). Bianca is pretty much the perfect subject to play with when experimenting with these things.
My favourite thing to do with a camera, is jump in a car with a mate, let our inner child style us, and shoot a few (hundred 😂) frames somewhere that looks like the middle of nowhere.
Bianca now lives in LA so that's a little harder to do that with her these days, but that's the best thing about Christmas, your friends come home and you can do just that.
So here is the softer side, the side I know best, of the Aussie Action super star, Bianca Bradey.
Oh, if you feel like it subscribe or check back in later in the week. There's another session, this time in the ol' studio of her coming out.
